Meeting Myself Faces Tough Issue With Faith

>> Friday, September 21, 2012

Well. I didn't get at my regular blog posting this week. Let's blame it on inadequate coffee intake. Stay tuned next week for an interesting take on our happy endings discussion, courtesy of a certain wise Aussie pal.

But today is Friday (d'uh) and that means a new book trailer here at Thistle. We're headed in a different direction this week, moving into non-fiction with a gripping glimpse into the struggles of author Brenda J. Wood.

Brenda hails from Barrie, Ontario, just a few hours from my little village and at the edge of cottage country. This girl writes cookbooks, devos, children's books and much more... enough to make me tired just thinking about it. But her non-fiction account of a heart-wrenching struggle through abuse and bulimia, as told in Meeting Myself: Snippets from a Binging and Bulging Mind, marks Brenda as a hero in my book.

This personal story struck a chord with me, having battled through bulimia (or more accurately, stood back as the Holy Spirit battled for me). But anyone who longs to know that God meets us right where we are, in the darkness of binging and the terror of abuse, will appreciate Brenda's story.

Check out the trailer and chapter preview below.

Meeting Myself was a non-fiction finalist in the Word Alive Press 2011 contest. Here's a sneak peek at the first chapter ~

"Half of life is simply accepting what is."

I didn't know I wasn't me. How could I? As long as I could remember, I'd never been anyone else. That's what abuse did to me. Parts of me lay buried so deep that at first glance they seemed not to be there at all.

Please check out Brenda's website or visit Brenda's Facebook page for more info and some lovely pictures of this Canadian author and speaker.

Until Next Week,

Oh, and we go to Ontario Camp of the Deaf every year near Parry Sound. Hub's parents helped found that camp in the '60's.

Thanks for visiting, Jennifer! Excellent to connect with other writer peeps, especially a truly coast-to-coast Canadian :)

Enthusiastic nods from this corner, for God is indeed SO good.
